What is the effect of a bereavement donation to Swiss Doctors?
A bereavement donation helps the Swiss Doctors in their daily work. They work on a voluntary basis all over the world to help people in need. After all, misery and illness are part of everyday life, especially in countries of the Global South. Every day, the Swiss Doctors treat countless patients far away from home and improve their health care, adequate nutrition and the education of people in need. With the donations entrusted to us, we create a sustainable medical infrastructure and give new hope to sick people.
You can already indicate this wish in the obituary. We will be happy to discuss the procedure with you personally.

What should I bear in mind when making a bereavement donation?
1) Contact us
Please inform us of the upcoming funeral and let us know the name of the deceased and the date of the funeral service so that we can clearly allocate incoming donations. Simply send us a short e-mail.
2) Formulate the obituary
Indicate your wish for a donation in the obituary. Ask your guests to transfer the funeral donation to the following donation account:
PostFinance AG
IBAN: CH 03 0900 0000 1503 0081 6
BIC: POFICHBEXXX
In order to be able to allocate the incoming condolence donations to your bereavement, you will also receive a suitable donation code from us - this is usually the name of the deceased. If your mourners would like a donation receipt, we need the name and address of the person making the donation.
3) Receive feedback
A few weeks after the funeral, we will inform you of the total amount donated and who has made a funeral donation. This gives you another opportunity to thank the mourners for their generosity. Please note that for reasons of data protection we are unable to show the individual amounts of the donations.

We answer your questions about a bereavement donation
What is a bereavement donation?
A bereavement donation, also known as a wreath donation or condolence donation, is a donation in the event of a bereavement, or more precisely a monetary donation on the occasion of the funeral: Instead of cash in the funeral card, flowers or wreaths, the mourners donate a certain amount to an organisation. In many cases, the bereaved specify an organisation of their choice, thus fulfilling the last wish of the deceased.
Can I also donate the collection to Swiss Doctors?
Yes, discuss your wish with the pastor during the preparatory meeting for the funeral or church service so that the church can transfer the collection to Swiss Doctors.

How do I phrase the wish for a funeral donation in the obituary?
If you would like to ask the mourners for a donation for the funeral, include the donation request and all important information about the donation in the obituary, for example like this:
“Instead of money, flowers or wreaths, we ask for a donation to Swiss Doctors - and thus for a donation for people in need.

“We would like to fulfil [name of deceased]'s last wish and make a difference in his/her name. Therefore, instead of flowers and wreaths, we ask for a donation to Swiss Doctors, a medical aid organisation that provides medical care to people in need worldwide.

How do bereavement donations to Swiss Doctors help?
With every donation to Swiss Doctors, you help people in need in the Global South who would otherwise not be able to afford a visit to the doctor. In addition to providing people with medical care, our missions are primarily concerned with training local staff and so strengthening local health structures so that the aid remains sustainable in the long run.
As a matter of principle, we always use the donations where help is most urgently needed. If a particular project is close to your or the deceased's heart, you can also donate to a specific project. In this case, tell your mourners about the specific project.
You can also use funeral donations to fulfil the last wish of the deceased person and send an important message in their name.
How much should a donation in the event of bereavement be?
The amount of the funeral donation depends, among other things, on the closeness to the deceased person and the bereaved. Many mourners donate between CHF 50 and 100 for a good cause in the name of the deceased and fulfil their last wish.
You can be assured with Swiss Doctors: Every donation in the event of bereavement helps people in our project regions in a sustainable way.
